These curves complete the map showing the trade in light weapons by contributing a chronology for the top ten exporting and importing countries between 1962 and 2016. Although the figures are in common currency, which exaggerates recent figures on account of inflation, the international trade in light weapons substantially increased from the late 1980s onwards. The United States imports the bulk of international trade, more than 2.5 billion dollars worth in 2016, whereas exports are more divided between the United States, then Italy, Germany, and South Korea.
